Idea: The New Face of Public Transport

By Sakima Wolfe
I think that public transportation buses and trains should all be sleek polished black with plush gray interiors sporting red stitching detail.
Matte walnut trim would adorn the dimly lit interior of each cozy compartment complete with adjustable overhead lighting, while brushed stainless steel hand rails would sprout starkly from the dark gray carpet running the length of the vessel.
Fully-automated scrolling displays along with a smooth, dark female contralto would announce where and when you were arriving.
Bus drivers would be friendly, helpful, and engaging but not overly so.
They would speak with proper effectivity and professionalism while still exuding a somewhat whimsical quality beneath.
Each would have a properly fitting and well maintained uniform of black slacks, polished boots or shoes, a stark white buttoned shirt with a starched collar, a medium gray blazer, and a black cap with glossy front brim.
Bus stops would all be fully-protected from the elements as well as fully-stocked with the current day’s digital newsstand.
Advertisements would not be overpowering, but merely noticeable and well within the parameters of the overall theme in the area.
Accessing such stops from a bus would be as simple as pressing a smooth red button located somewhere out of the way (as not to hit it by accident) but easily accessible from a seated position within the compartment.
This is my dream.
“Doors opening…”
